critical period

it has now come to the point where the next phase of the journey has to be decided...where will the river flows....no doubt towards the sea...but what course will be taken...slow and peaceful meanders....or high waterfalls and fast rapids....

feather

Intrinsically Motivated Vs Extrinsically Motivated

Intrinsic Motivations are motivations that arise naturally from the actions itself, examples would be eating for satisfying hunger, running for the andrenaline rush, bathing for the refreshed feel etc.

On the other hand...

Extrinsic Motivations are motivations that arise because of external forces/interventions, examples would be eating for a medal that says "Who can eat the most hot dogs in 1 minute", running for the first prize of $5000 in cash, bathing because you know you will not be asked to clean the ceiling fans afterwards etc.

Initially...

Every actions/behaviors are intinsically motivated...however, due to external influences, many actions/behaviors have now lost their nature of being intrinsically motivating...

Hence...

The key is not to find ways to increase motivations but to reduce motivations so that the original intrinsic motivations can surface again

For Now

For Now

Princeton: Why does everything have to be so hard?
Gary: Maybe you‘ll never find your purpose.
Christmas: Lots of people don’t.
Princeton: But then - I don't know why I'm even alive!
Kate: Well, who does, really? Everyone's a little bit unsatisfied.
Brian: Everyone goes ‘round a little empty inside.
Gary: Take a breath, look around,
Brian: Swallow your pride,
Kate: For now...
All: For now...
Nicky: Nothing lasts,
Rod: Life goes on,
Nicky: Full of surprises.
Rod: You’ll be faced with problems of all shapes and sizes.
Christmas: You‘re going to have to make a few compromises... for now...
Trekkie: For now...

All: But only for now! (For now)
Only for now! (For now)
Only for now! (For now)
Only for now!
Lucy: For now we’re healthy.
Brian: For now we‘re employed.
Bears: For now we’re happy...
Kate: If not overjoyed.
Princeton: And we'll accept the things we cannot avoid, for now...
Gary: For now...
Trekkie: For now...
Kate: For now...

All: But only for now! (For now)
Only for now! (For now)
Only for now! (For now)
Only for now!

Only for now!
(For now there's life!)
Only for now!
(For now there's love!)
Only for now!
(For now there's work!)
For now there's happiness!
But only for now!
(For now discomfort!)
Only for now!
(For now there's friendship!)
Only for now (For now!)
Only for now!

Only for now! (Sex!)
Is only for now! (Your hair!)
Is only for now! (George Bush!) [No more!]
Is only for now!

Don't stress,
Relax,
Let life roll off your backs
Except for death and paying taxes,
Everything in life is only for now!

Nicky: Each time you smile...
All: Only for now
Kate: It‘ll only last a while.
All: Only for now
Princeton: Life may be scary...
All: Only for now
But it’s only temporary

Ba-dum ba-dum
Ba-dum ba-dum
Ba dum ba-dum
Ba-da da da da
ba-da da-da da da-da
Ba-dum ba-da, ba-dum ba-da

Princeton: Everything in life is only for now.

whose mop???~~~

St. Neots' Margin

Difficulties create meanings in life by forcing us to concentrate, and the absence of such difficulties makes life dull and boring...

This story is about a man who has just died and find himself in the afterlife.
Just as the man was exploring his new existence, he felt a powerful presence appearing in front of him. The presence said to him, "Welcome! You can have anything you want here...you just have to wish for it!"

Having said that, the powerful presence dissapeared. The man was overjoyed and indulges himself in every desires he can think of. However as time passed, the man began to feel bored as he realized that things lose their value when they are easily attained.
Facing an eternity of boredom, the man cried out loud, "Heaven is so boring! I rather be in hell!!!"

Out of nowhere, the powerful voice replied, "Where do you think you are in the first place?"

DO! WAIT! HOPE!

"I can summarize the whole of human wisdom in 3 words,
DO, WAIT, HOPE"

- quote by someone who has seen much of life

I think this quote translate to advising a person to put in EFFORT in whatever one does, have PATIENCE and not be overly eager to see results, always HOPEFUL by having faith that one day one will achieve what one sets out to accomplish.

All Will Pass

Learn to cherish
Learn to endure
For nothing last forever
Doesnt matter good or bad
All will pass

Assume too much...

A man who was recovering from an accident that has broken all his fingers in both hands earnestly asks the surgeon,

"Will I be able to play the piano when my wounds heal?"

"Yes, I am sure you will."

"That's great! I have always wanted to be able to play the paino."

"......"
