The Old Beggar
An old beggar was cold, hungry and dying soon...
as he lies on the pathway...snowflakes falling onto his face...he made a wish...
"If I were rich, I would spend my money wisely, I would never be stingy and will be contented with whatever I have..."
He then closed his eyes and was prepared to exhale his last breathe...
Suddenly, there was a bright light! A mystical being appeared before him and said,
"You committed grave sins in your past lives and that is why in this life your fate is as such...however...in your final moments, your sincerity when making that wish was felt by me...thus, I have decided to grant you health and a magic bag. There will always be a gold coin in this bag...you can take whatever you want from this bag...BUT you must burn this bag before you can use the money withdrawn from the bag. Remember my words and Good Luck!"
The beggar open his eyes and he felt healthy and strong again. There was indeed a bag in his hand. He reached in with his left hand and took out a gold coin. He was elated! Refusing to believe his left hand, he put in his right hand this time. Just as what the mystical being had said...the bag was indeed magical.
Not long after, the beggar felt hungry again...with the heaps of coins in front of him, he could easily afford a banquet. However, he felt that he could endure the hunger and continue to "earn" somemore gold coins from the magic bag...
A long time passed, now the beggar is feeling hungry, cold and tired...the mountains of coins around him now could have satisfy his every desire and still last him for generations...yet...the beggar felt that he should continue taking coins out. It was a rare magical bag after all...
Soon...the beggar cannot take it anymore...he became sick and collapse on the very same spot where he made his wish last time...not long after...the beggar passed away with all the gold coins around him and the magical bag still clutched tighly in his hand.
A gust of wind came blowing and the coins together with the bag turn into dust and was blown away...what was left was just a corpse of the old begggar...

know all things to be like this...
Know all things to be like this:
A mirage, a cloud castle,
A dream, an apparition,
Without essence, but with qualities that can be seen.
Know all things to be like this:
As the moon in a bright sky
In some clear lake reflected,
Though to that lake the moon has never moved.
Know all things to be like this:
As an echo that derives
From music, sounds, and weeping,
Yet in that echo is no melody.
Know all things to be like this:
As a magician makes illusions
Of horses, oxen, carts and other things,
Nothing is as it appears.
- quoted from an ancient sage

so fragile...
once again i see the fragility of life...deepest condolescence to a friend who lost someone who gave him life, knowlegde and guidance today...
we often take things for granted...knowing that we are not immortal...yet always assuming that we will still be here tomorrow...
treasure every moment for it may be our last...live such that we can leave without regrets anytime...anywhere...

Treasure Everyday
"This day is a special day, it is yours.
Yesterday slipped away, it cannot be filled anymore with meaning.
About tomorrow nothing is known.
But this day, today, is yours, make use of it.
Today you can make someone happy.
Today you can help another.
This day is a special day, it is yours."

Field Trip to Institute of Mental Health
The visit today really change my impression of IMH...
I used to think that IMH is just another hospital...just that the patients are ill in another way...
But after the visit, I realised IMH is not only just another hospital...
Its a place that seeks to restore hope to those who have none or little left...
Its a focal point where different help groups, charities, research institutions etc. can get together and contribute for the improvement of the general mental health of the population...
I was told that some patients were abandoned there by their family...I thought that was very tragic...very very tragic
And to those staff at IMH...I really must salute their spirit, their beliefs, their perserverance...many could have earn a better living anywhere else...but they chose to serve at IMH because they know that if they do not offer their hand...no one else will
Such trips should really be open to the public to raise the awareness of what IMH does and hopefully reduce the stigma attached to people needing mental health care

Audit Report
There is only 4 statements in the audit report on Lehman Brothers financial statements.
There is a left and right side in a balance sheet;
The left being the liabilities and the right being the assets;
There is nothing right in the left;
And there is nothing left in the right.

Always arriving... to this moment
Always departing... from this moment
Always here... at this moment
Always now... in this moment
Always paradoxical
Always ironical
Always reconcilable
Always as it is

greed
the manipulator driven by greed cannot see that the very greed that drives them will one day destroy them
the ignorance blinded by their greed could not understand how they are destroyed by the very greed that sustain them
as the scissor cuts the paper,
the paper wraps the stone,
the stone breaks the scissor
the ignorance blinded by their greed could not understand how they are destroyed by the very greed that sustain them

tired...
i can now fully understand what Bilbo Baggins meant when he said,
"...too little butter...spread over too much toast..."
dyw: too greedy to give up some bread...too poor to get more butter...~

母慈子孝
came across this nursing home this morning...
there was a big signboard at the top of its entrance showing,
<<母慈子孝>>
i find it funny and at the same time sad...
is it meant to be a kind reminder to parents?
or is it a sarcasm to the children?
just across the streets, i can see parents happily bringing their young kids to the coffee shop for breakfast...
standing at the side, i can look up and see empty faces of old people peering out of the windows...
i cant imagine myself slogging my entire life and to end up at a nursing home in my old age...

continue anyway
When the spider web got blown away for the 999th time...the spider build one more...
When the inventor failed his 999th experimental tries...the inventor try one more...
When the soldier failed his running test for the 999th time...the soldier try one more...
When all enery are sapped away...when all meanings become void...when all hopes seem lost...continue anyway...for you dont know what lies ahead just like the person stranded alone on an island do not know what the waves will bring in the next day...

eng version to a hokkien song
very meangingful song indeed...especially in times like these...
When we fall, its natural to groan and lament
When we are down, its natural to despair
When all hopes seem lost
Drowning our sorrows everyday
Liken to a corpse, liken to a scarecrow
However life is like the waves in the ocean
Sometimes up
Sometimes down
No matter how good or bad
We still have to wake up everyday and live on
Some parts may be predetermined
Most parts are within our means
Only by relentless effort can we win
